KICC News (2) Season of ExaminationsI

We would like to introduce two students, Mr. A and Ms. B, who are in the third year of junior high school.

In January, Mr. A took the entrance examination for Tokyo Metropolitan X High School. Then, he passed! Congratulations, Mr. A!

Mr. A took the examination for a high school by the "Zaikyo waku*. The “Zaikyo waku” is open to students who live in Tokyo and are newcomers to Japan (have been in Japan for up to 3 years). The examination consists of an interview and an essay.

Mr. A came to Japan in March 2023. When he came to Japan, he did not know Japanese well. So, he started learning from “aiueo” (Japanese alphabet). And for the entrance exam, he practiced a lot of essay writing and interviewing. He did great.

Mr. B came to Japan when he was in the 4th grade of elementary school. He has been living in Japan for 6 years, so he can’t take the “Zaikyo waku” examination. He takes a“general” exam that requires taking 5 subjects: Japanese, Math, Social Studies, Science, and English.

His speaking is pretty great, but he is not good at mathematics. He came to Japan when he was in the 4th grade of elementary school, and at that time, his Japanese level was not good enough to understand elementary school math classes.

His exam is coming soon! Good luck to Mr. B!
